I am running for Medford City Council for these reasons but not limited to: 1) Fixing the water pipes that are cracked causing Medford residents and businesses to pay an excessive rate. 2) Fight against higher taxes imposed by the state and federal government by cutting Medford spending by a modest 4% so we can drastically reduce the excise tax rate or eliminate it altogether. Cutting spending by 4% saves Medford tax payers nearly 6 million dollars. Excise taxes collected totaled 4.6 million dollars. We can reduce the excise tax to 0% and still be nearly 1.5 million dollars ahead and actually us that money to fix roads that sorely need repair. 3) Establish a Charter Commission which is an unpaid elected body of 9 members who, when appealed to by any citizen on any issue, will have the final authority to vote up or down any resolution offered by the City Council or the Mayor putting the power of government where the Founding Fathers intended it to be which is in the hands of the people. 4) Offer a resolution to require the Mayor to be present for at least one full City Council Session per month so the Mayor can ask questions of the City Council, be asked questions by the City Council, and Medford residents in attendance can ask them all questions and hold city government accountable and transparent. 5) Offer a resolution for a regular joint meeting every other month of City Council and School Committee members to discuss and hammer out common sense solutions and on going reform to improve education by down sizing class rooms and constantly making changes that will enhance the educational experience for all students, teachers, administrators and parents. I would also like to create a new Medford Meritorious Small Business Achievement Award to help promote small businesses in Medford to help them grow because they are the backbone of the American economy. On all other matters I will use my education, experience as a former teacher, veteran, and as a medical device electronics technician in industry for the last 13 years, and my faith in God to provide the best public service I can for the citizens of my hometown, Medford, Massachusetts. Thank you all for your support and vote on November 5, 2013.
