I am still coming to terms with the loss of one of my newest and greatest friends. A giant of a man. I thank Jah that I had the privilege to work with him, sit in his home with him, laugh with him, and learn a great deal about life and about sacrifice for the greater good. Mr. Edmund Moxey, this country did not do you justice. You exacted the vision that Hon. Prophet Marcus Garvey called us to do. He wanted us to become owners in our own country so that we could take ourselves from low land to high land. It was for this reason that you worked and successfully established institutions that were for the upliftment of the people, not only in the Coconut Grove Community which you represented in Parliament, but for all of the inner city people of New Providence. You stood up in Parliament and led a one-man campaign against budget cuts for youth and community programmes. You created the beloved Jumbey Village, which brought so, so many Bahamians together every weekend to enjoy their culture through song, dance, food, clothing, art, through the statues of the Bahamian husband and wife, and the Lucayan huts. Every day Bahamians had the opportunity to make money for themselves and their families where the opportunities were not present before. Through your leadership, teachers and students at the Coconut Grove school saved up tens of thousands, nearly a hundred thousand dollars towards the establishment of the pre-school and clinic, which are still standing today, and a 400 seat local theatre, which was torn down. Torn down just like your visions for a rich and fruitful Bahamas built on cooperatives from community to community, replicating the plan of self sufficiency. Investing in the land, in agriculture and fisheries. You had a special place in your heart for the young people of The Bahamas and it was just several weeks ago that you sat with the Minister of Youth, Sports & Culture Dr. Daniel Johnson and his staff, sharing your vision on how to lift the Bahamas upward and onward, together. You took the high road. You stood up for what is right. You suffered because of it. You have exemplified what it is to stand up for a cause even until your passage from this world into the next. They put dynamite to your Jumbey Village, ... and to your dreams... but somehow they never broke your spirit. Here we were planning on moving the statues at NIB back to their original arrangement, and share with this nation their significance and purpose, and planning for a new Jumbey Village, and you are gone... It is still hard to believe?????... but King Edmund, what about our plans?? Is this why Anthony Ace Newbold and I sat in your living room that very peaceful afternoon and talked about what a true Bahamas should be? Is this why you continued to call me daily to share your vision and to give me encouragement? But we had only just begun?????? There is so much more to do... Well, thank you for your love and admiration, thank you for your inspiration, thank you for showing me the real measure of what a man should be. A spiritual man, a proud and loving father, devoted husband, perfectionist in his work, lover of nature and a fruitful garden always at his doorstep.... oh gee, now I remember eating those sweet bananas off of your tree and sharing jokes because your sofa always swallows my phone *-* tears Marva N.
