I am thankful to have a fireplace. It is a prefab fireplace but still a fireplace. I do miss the real hand built fireplaces we use to have. My fireplace does good to heat my living room. People say the old ones sent more of your heat up the chimney. But I am not sure I agree with that. People use to heat there homes with fireplaces. As a kid we had a fireplace upstairs and one downstairs in the basement. In the basement that was the only heat we had down there and it was a big area. Probably as much floor space as my whole house I have now. That fireplace would heat that whole area. I miss the real old fashion fireplaces. Think the only thing better is a good Buck shove insert that is put in right.
