I arrived yesterday after a plane rife of nearly 25 hours. My American mom asked me to send texts to her when I arrive and land at airports, but once I left Dallas, there was no wifi so I could not when in Dallas I met a brazilian family who I helped with English, when they were ordering dinner, and we had a long conversation in portuguese afterwards. I was with them the entire layover and when I arrived in São Paulo they helped me with my portuguese. Before we left Dallas, they bought me a dinner of pulled pork, my last meal in America. In São Paulo, I met another family, this time an older couple that I stayed with until departing from there, even though we were going on the same plane we were in different seats. I saw them after the plane trip once I reached my brazilian familys car. On the plane, I met someone coming from Rio de Janeiro to surf the waves of Florianopolis, and a couple returning from a 6 year vacation to Ireland. He looked kind of scary at first, but once we started talking, he became one of the most friendly people I have ever met. If its one thing that I have learned from the plane rides is that first impressions arent always the best to go by. Everyone I met have commented on my portuguese, saying voce fala muito bom! Meaning that you speak very well. I can start a conversation with anyone, but I cannot understand much of what they are saying, I am guessing, because of the accent. I landed with a huge group of people waiting for me, most of the exchange students, mom and dad, members of São José Rotary and of Florianopolis. Boni, their dog doesnt like me yet, barking every time he sees me. Boni stays outside though because he is the guard dog, and that perhaps he will dirty the house. Once I arrived at the house, we had a dinner of Pizza, which was spectacular, maybe because of the lack of Pizza Sauce, or maybe because of lack of food, I will never know but it was fantastic. After dinner my dad and I watched Figueirense vs Flamingo and bogota vs santos. I think he is the first person, except for maybe dalton who knows more about soccer than I do. He is the first that I have met but definitely not the last as I am in brazil. :) I slept for 16 hours yesterday, it was heavily needed because I have not slept in 25 hours and havent slept well for 2 weeks. After awaking I had a breakfast of Strawberry jelly and a strange object called doce de leite, or sweet milk, it is like nothing I have ever tried before in the US. After breakfast, I finished unpacking completely finding Skittles, 2 peanut butter nature valleys and 3 packages of Skittles. I have them to my family. It was then time for a lunch of Feijão or, rice, carne de boi, and mixtures of other foreign objects. I have discovered that my mom likes American country, when she was in the kitchen I heard her playing music, upon listening further I discovered that it was Luke Brian after a song by Blake shelton, and before a song by Johnny cash. Right now, its 99 red balloons, in portuguese :). My dad likes Bossa Nova and MPB, Bossa nova is like brazilian jazz and MPB is music populares do brasil. for dinner tonight there was left over pizza :) i love brazil already! PS I almost forgot, on the way back from the airport I found the brazilian version of the Statue of Liberty! PSS on Saturday and Sunday, we are going to our 2nd house which is in the mountains :) and for dinner on Saturday we will have my first Chuchassco I dont know how to spell it :)
