I awoke this morning as an old man... When reaching the 50-year - TopicsExpress

I awoke this morning as an old man... When reaching the 50-year age landmark, one ought to perspicaciously reflect. Confucius claimed that there are three paths to wisdom: First, by reflection, which is noblest; Second, by imitation, which is easiest; and third by experience, which is the bitterest. The list below contains a list of wise pearls begotten of 50 life years, many with origins in monumental personal judgment lapses. More succinctly, my mother-in-law aptly stated that a “Half a century ought to be good for something…” 1. Humility is foremost among virtues. 2. Fools are easily fooled, think foolishly, say foolish things, and engage in tomfoolery. 3. One is much more easily fooled than convinced he or she has been played for a fool. 4. To characterize something or someone as “High-Quality” is to ascribe the highest complementary form. Those held in high esteem are cross-dimensionally High-Quality. 5. Multi-dimensional people are invaluable; most anyone can be one-dimensional. 6. Health and fitness include the intellectual, spiritual, familial, financial, and physical dimensions. 7. Never underestimate the lengths a person will go to protect his or her own self-concept. 8. Selfishness, egocentricity, arrogance, hard-headedness, and self-centeredness are developmentally regressed behavioral shortcomings. 9. Those who act unsuitably do not lack self-esteem; they possess too much of it. 10. The reversibility principle (treat others as we want to be treated) is easily understood, but arduously applied. 11. We must judge, lest we engage in foolishness. To discerningly judge, we must form well-reasoned comparative assessments. 12. Control is illusory and embodies juvenile self-centeredness. 13. High-Quality decision making begets a string of high-quality follow-on decisions and outcomes. Low-quality decision making has the antithetical impact. 14. Human beings were not meant to be solitary creatures. Low quality decision making occurs when people are lonely. Managing one’s loneliness is a critical life skill. 15. All people are obsessed. What matters is what they are obsessed with. 16. Size matters. Period. 17. Fairness, justice, and equality are not synonymous. Fairness must be based on just outcomes, not equal ones. Equality is a 3rd grade recess playground construct. Justice should be the desired standard. 18. When one goes slowly, one goes quickly. 19. The wizened is slow to speak. Conversely, the fool speaks regularly. 20. God is needed. Thanks to all for your thoughts, prayers, and wishes....God Bless.
