I believe in a lot of socially progressive ideals, but... Right now, Western Progressivism is probably the most disruptive & destructive force in the world. While much of the world is trying to move forward from deep-rooted traditionalist backgrounds, Western Progressives, steeped in a largely American consumerist culture of privilege and immediate gratification, are manically and insensitively promoting CHANGE, NOW AND DAMN THE TRADITIONALISTS! But you cant move a society forward if you try to move it so quickly that it fragments. This is a hard lesson that should have been learned from 19th Century missionaries and *some* colonialism (some colonial powers were actually pretty good about respecting traditions and gradually introducing change; whereas many post-colonial nationalists and Third World Leftist intellectuals tore their countries apart trying to modernize them--Obamas father was one of those). It was a lesson that should have been learned from recent neo-conservative nation-building failings, and from the Arab Spring disaster. But, as long as Progressivism has this *revolutionary aspect (easily inherited from the LEFT) and as long as Progressivism maintains its complete lack of respect for social conservatism (and a complete disregard for the natural function of conservatism and tradition in any society) it will continue to be the *bull in the China shop worldwide. Look at these brats. Really? They know whats best for everybody?? They know *how* to change the world?? They are children, acting out.
