I came across a couple this morning on their way to practice urban agriculture holding in one hand, the husband had a handhoe and on the other a packet of Open Pollinated Variety maize seed(private breeders nightmare). It just reminded me of how the system really needs to now focus on the practical needs of the people(welfare and basic social needs) in support of the empowerment program as a way to advance the masses to the next level. Its high time we stop politicking and focus on the real needs of the people. Talk about empowerment, the authority responsible please its time you strenghthen the extension services,I had a lift from an A2 farmer last week, during the converstion I discovered that the guy had bought a 450HP tractor for a 100ha plot,For crying out loud this is too much for the little plot. For the operations he intended to use it for on the plot,all he requires is atmost 120HP tractor. He lacks knowledge, and there he was talking about going to the farm to plan for this rainy season,NOW???? Is nt it a bit too late?? This is the only way we can increase food production in the country......
