I didnt really get the opportunity to write about this properly since I spent all of yesterday riding in the tour van and was Coffee Crazy, but I just wanted to share this again and say a thing about it. Writing and recording this album was one of the most time and emotionally intensive that Ive ever taken on, but that, coupled with running Orchid Tapes with Brian, has kind of ended up being the best collective experience of my life. Opening up and writing songs about things like the death of my brother and others who have been close to me, my relationship with Brian and how I try and navigate depression / anxiety has been really crucial to me living better and being a better person, so I feel really grateful to anyone who is open to listening to the ways Ive tried to detail these things and have expressed their own thoughts on the album. Seeing how many people have posted links to the stream and urged other people to listen has really made me realize how lucky I am to be surrounded by such an incredible and supportive group of friends. The contributions on Ontario Gothic from Ansel Cohen, Owen Pallett and Beau Sorensen and Sam, Rachel and Caroline from the Orchid Tapes family have allowed me to stay constantly excited and optimistic about finishing this record and then subsequently self-releasing it. They are all such incredibly talented people and I love them so much. The process of getting to work with the become close friends with Owen has been absolutely invaluable to this album getting finished. Aside from his incredible musical contributions to this record, hes taught me so much about the creative process and has always known exactly how to restore my confidence when I needed it (often). Getting to spend the past two weeks touring with him and his band has been the best, and having him and Emily Reo play in the FiF live band has been so uniformly good and the shows weve played together on this tour have been the best of my entire life. Thank you again to everyone whos been there for me over the past four years and who have helped to make this year the best of my life, I hope you all like the new record. x
