I didnt want to say much until I had some time to process it, but Im really gonna miss Mikey Hodges. I met Mike in Bloomington but he was at home just about anywhere and made you feel that way, too. It was somehow never surprising to run into him just about anywhere in this country; these unexpected encounters were perfectly natural. Every time I saw Mike he would try to convince me to come start a new band with him wherever he was living at the time and, honestly, I gotta say Ill always think of that as a missed opportunity. He had impeccable taste, wide open ears and the man knew how to write a song! If theres anything resembling a silver lining to the awful news of his passing, its the reminder to make time and effort for the things that are important to you just like Mike did. I was digging around for a picture of the two of us after hearing the news but Ive come up short. Instead, I found our last communication with one another, in which he insisted I track down Sonny Sharrocks Ask The Ages - Ill leave yall with that. Love you Mikey! Godspeed...
