I dont know how he did it!!! My great great grandfather was a prisoner of war in Civil War. According to pension records his imprisonment left him with eye damage and rheumatism. The local paper had entries when he came into town after being laid up flat in bed for x number of weeks. I also read where he went through these spells and never complained or was unpleasant. These types of things were said about his son, my great grandfather, William---and some of his children. I began reading these records in my late teens-early twenties. I wanted to be like them. Id been in pain every day since around twelve and diagnosed with arthritis around 18. My 10 back then would probably be todays 4 or 5. Its too late to be like them; Ive complained and whined---today Im whining. Wish my mom was still here. She was the one that would say the right things. I miss her every day but especially right now.
