I feel I must say something on this, as I have heard a lot on this - TopicsExpress

I feel I must say something on this, as I have heard a lot on this subject lately- I see the value of shelters, Jack (my retired service dog) is from one. But I looked in shelters for 2 years for a replacement service dog candidate and could not find one. I finally researched and contacted a reputable and responsible breeder that does breed rescue to get a mastiff puppy. Then I waited 9 months for the right puppy to be born. In my eyes there is nothing wrong with responsible, ethical breeders who place every pup born in homes they have screened and are willing to take them back for any reason- even if it means they must keep the dog for life. Beaus (my Beowulf Mastiffs) breeder found out one of the dogs she sold got listed on Craigslist once. She spent a week tracking that dog down, calling lawyers, and getting that dog to her home- at her expense. And that dog was in bad shape when she got it back. She nursed it back to health and it was re-homed. The family that first had it got divorced and the dog lost out. They were a good home for the first few years. Backyard and unethical breeders are bad, so are uncaring owners. If you punish the responsible, ethical breeders for what happens to all dogs, then the puppy mills and backyard breeders will take over. Ban everything and all animals will go away. Shelter dogs are wonderful animals and people are very passionate on this subject, but there must be a balance here. Not all dog breeders are evil. The ones I know are wonderful loving people who care very much about every dog they have produced for the life of that dog. I am not a dog breeder, but finding a great candidate for a service dog in a shelter is a crap shoot, at best. It takes 2+ years to train a service dog, and I prefer to retire my dogs at a young age so they can be awesome pets. That means I must start my search for the next dog early, by the time my dog is 4 I must have a new dog in mind. After my recent search, I would not hesitate to contact Susann Everett for another puppy. She knows what I need to have and has given me an awesome puppy to do the job I need done. She is not an evil breeder who does not care about the puppies she helps to bring into this world. She is in constant contact with me and is very happy that Beau and I are doing well and helping others. She and I have laughed about me returning him, over my dead body- literally is always my reply. Please find a balance within yourselves. Not all dog breeders are the evil monsters some make them out to be. If you feel the need to rescue a pet, do so- please. But I ask you not to judge that which you do not wholly know. There are good, positive reasons for things, look for those and walk in balance. Peace and love be with you in all things
