I got a call from Texas the other night that my beautiful Wonderland had be put down. 11am on Sat morning, Oct 11. We were working on getting him home to me. The vet there, not consulting a farrier, decided he needed to be put down due to absesses in his feet. When he suggested that he may have foundered a week ago, I insisted on xrays, which indicated that there was no founder nor any problem with his feet, other than a young vet trying new things on a 24 yr old dressage schoolmaster. Wonderland was the light of my life for many years, and I always considered him a gift from heaven. When circumstances forced me to sell him 5 years ago to someone I thought was able to care for him properly, I was heart sick, but confident that his new owner was more than capable to do what ever he would ever need. Little did I know that they had no farriers there in Fort Dix, and the nearest vet was 2 hours away. :( Linda called me to offer him retirement with me as her husband passed away, and she wanted to do some traveling. I was more than thrilled and honored that he was coming home. He was sound and ready for his trip when the vet decided to pull his shoes causing a domino effect that led to his being put down, and in my and my farriers opinion unnecessarily. If we just could have gotten him home, Bret Moore would have worked with him, and made him comfortable and ultimately made him sound. Wonderland was a solid Prix St George Schoolmaster, finished by Lendon Grey, and fell out of heaven into my life. I am so very sorry I let him go when I did. But as we all know, hind sight is 20 and useless to reflect on. Wonderland, my heart, good night my wonderful special boy. 1990-2014
