***I got the nicest message from Angel LaCanfora while Crystal Cavern was on... Well, I can die now, after hearing my tune, When the Wind Dies Down played back-to-back with a Bob Dylan song on the internet radio show, Crystal Cavern. Dream come true.... thank you, Deborah! I surely dont want her to die, but I love the sentiment & why I put the show together this way. This means everything to me. Now I can die :) Todays playlist... 1. Dennis Holseybrook Go For A Ride intro... 2. Opossum Into The Woods A track that influenced my music ? Wow.....ok....Ill give it some thought.. from me A HUGE congrats on Opossum & his upcoming marriage in March! reverbnation/opossumsongs 3. The Friends Of Distinction Going In Circles 4. The Pillbugs-Mark Mikel No Joke Now if you can just get your hands on an MP3 of The Monkees The Girl I Knew Somewhere. The Mike Nesmith compostion that represents (to me) pure musical joy and artistic freedom. The Monkees were finally given the right to create their own music and produce their own recordings- and they exploded with their own brand of sunshine in this unique little pop gem. Its a good signpost for my whole career really because I was always making music out of pure enjoyment. No record guys to tell me what to do and the rest of the world basically demanding that I give up- which, for better or for worse, I never did. thepillbugs.bandcamp/album/the-pillbugs-best 5. Monkees The Girl I Knew Somewhere 6. Acoustosonics - Jimmy Valentine Baby Im Crazy This song was written in 2010 it was recorded in Barrington Illinois in our living room studio we called Mountain Keep. Its from the first Acoustosonics cd called One. Jane Boettner is singing the female vocal parts and I (Jimmy Valentine) am singing the lead vocal and playing guitar. Chris Grubner is playing bass. Its really weird to listen to our first CD with Grubs being dead of a heroin overdose. When we started Acoustosonics the goal was to make music with a point that really meant something. Now after Chriss death the songs on One all take on a different meaning from their original intention. Honestly this is the first time I have listened to this since he passed. i remember Chris and I were having a conversation about a letter my father sent me from Dixon Prison with a poem about hangin his balls on a cherry tree. Chris and I thought it was hilarious so we wrote it into Baby Im Crazy and balls got changed to heart! I guess the original intention was just to let Jane know hey Im crazy but I love only you! Now it feels like Grubbs talkin from the beyond. Even though he really didnt write any of the lyrics it was the synergy of he and I just hanging out that brought the words to the surface. As a founding member of Acoustosonics we were not sure if we would carry on without him because he was such a big part of our vibe. BUT as these things go it was complicated cause we had already asked him to leave due to his drug use and always intended to ask him back once he got well, so we figured we would continue on as Acoustosonics into the future without him. Now as I look and listen back Im glad we did. Acoustosonics has been through some tough times and one thing is certain we are ALL crazy baby! Thank you for the spiun and you can hear the rest of One at soundclick/acoustosonics and hear our new CD Doom in Bloom at acoustosonics acoustosonics/ reverbnation/jimmyvalentine 7. Angel LaCanfora When The Wind Dies Down Hi Deb, Influence track for WTWDD would have to be Bob Dylans Forever Young the slower version from his Planet Waves. The lyrics came first for When the Wind Dies Down. Just reading them aloud, I felt they had a hymn-like quality and in that regard, it reminded me of Dylans Forever Young. And also like FY, I was torn between making this a ballad or revving it up some. In the end, Dylan has opted for doing it both ways, but I decided on a moderate tempo. This song is for my late brother, Keith LaCanfora, RIP. Thank you, Angel x https://soundcloud/angel-lacanfora 11. Bob Dylan Forever Young 12. Winstons Big Brother She wont Be Lonely an aside from me, a HUGE congrats on WBB getting signed by the Indie label MAS! Winstons Big Brothers She wont be lonely is a song written from the perspective of a man, who is watching his girlfriend leave him. If you think back to a song called lying eyes by the eagles, you would remember it has a simular story line. The eagles are just one influence of many for WBB, some of which include, led zeppelin, the Beatles, the who and pink floyd winstonsbigbrother/ mightyatomsmasher/ 13. The Eagles Lying Eyes 14. The Pondhawks Time Flies Time Flies influenced by the late, great Buddy Holly. Written by Mario Novelli and Jorie Gracen on the 50th anniversary of Hollys last show at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Iowa (Feb 2, 1959) thepondhawks/PondHawks/enter.htm reverbnation/thepondhawks 15. Buddy Holly Thatll Be The Day 16. Thee Rhythm Kings Cant Stop Boppin (written by Dennis Holseybrook, vocals & keyboards) I wanted to write a classic rock tune like Old Time Rock & Roll. Give it a classic intro and choral hook. The lyrics are about a fantasy I had back then. reverbnation/dennisholseybrook 17. Bob Seger Old Time Rock And Roll 18. Nancy Ryan Indecision Lets see. My early influences were Santana, Mick Jagger and Pink Floyd and soooooo many others. I did not get into Country Music until much later in my music career when I realized I was writing Country Music, hehehehehehehe I was basically a Rock N Roll Girl! They say I remind people of Bonnie Raitt, Lucinda Williams and Anna Dr Franko. Miami Dan & The Hayes Street Band No Fear No Fear is the story of my sophomore year in college at Western Carolina University, and the year following. My roommate, Tommy the G Gilmore, was in the process of flunking out and I wasnt far behind him. Tommy convinced me that we should drop out of school for a year and live in Miami for a year to recharge our batteries. Given that we both had been going to school non-stop for 14 years, the incessant rain in the Carolina mountains refused to stop, my grades were suffering, and my girlfriend had just broken up with me, it was an easy sell to get me to go. We initially lived on the beach in Dania, Florida, and later moved slightly inland to an apartment on Hayes Street in Hollywood, and often made the short drive up the beach to Fort Lauderdale. I had originally written the song in the 1970s, with different lyrics, and wanted to record it in 2009 in a Beach Boys style after having reworked the lyrics. I had met Probyn Gregory of the Brian Wilson Band at a couple of Brians shows, and had watched an interview he did during which he stated that he enjoyed helping other people bring their songs to life. I sent Probyn an e-mail asking if he would be interested in traveling to Georgia to produce a track for me. After hearing the demo of the song, he agreed to do it, and we recorded the track in two days at Paul Hornsbys Muscadine Studio in Macon, with Paul engineering. One of the songs that influenced Probyns production was the Beach Boys The Little Girl I Once Knew. He adapted parts of Brian Wilsons original intro to Little Girl as the intro and outro notes to No Fear. In 2013, the song was selected by the Bamboo Trading Company for inclusion on its album. The lyrics were once again reworked, the song was retitled Ive Always Loved the Ocean, the original intro and outro were completely redone, and the vocals were re-recorded with Matt Jardine singing the lead on the Bamboo Trading Company version. miamidan/ reverbnation/miamidan 21 The Beach Boys The Little Girl I Once Knew 22 .Poppermost Bitter Suite Hi Deborah, Thanks for playing Bitter Suite on your show. Bitter Suite is a compilation of 3 songs that were attempts at writing out the negative feelings I have about my father. He was not a man of honor, nor was he a family man in any sense of the word. I figure that the orchestral section represents me, burying my sadness in music and and cheer. Its inspiration (god, this was so long ago) was a song called Broken Arrow by Buffalo Springfield.
