I got to see our very own Benjamin F. Naska, aka Geo-Ben, perform - TopicsExpress

I got to see our very own Benjamin F. Naska, aka Geo-Ben, perform some heroics today while we were out geocaching and biking. We were doing the towpath trail from Washingtons Crossing to Ewing, and on the way back we stopped for a break in a parking area. Ben looked out and I said Whats wrong? He said something is wrong. I asked him if he was going to check it out and he said yes and I pointed out a place he could see down toward that area. Next thing I know, hes gone. I stayed in the parking area with my 7-year-old and all of our bikes. Another person ran by and I asked them whats wrong and they said a kid was lost. Then I heard the mom run by and she was wailing something about her son was swept away. Then everyone was past and we waited, since there wasnt much else we could do (except to say a prayer, which we did.) 10 minutes or so go by and people are heading back to us. Including the mom and she is no longer wailing. And the dad is holding a kid! Some kayakers (carrying a kayak) and Ben are shortly behind them. Ben makes his way back up the hill to us and explains that the kid was swimming in the Delaware (in a really bad place to swim) and got swept away. Ben saw him float by and raced to catch up with him. Fortunately a kayaker saw it from in the water, too, and raced to get the kid also. They caught up to him a quarter to half a mile down river where he started, then the kayaker was able to reach him with an oar and get him to the side where Ben pulled him out. I am sure Ben would have jumped in to get the kid if he had to, but luckily he didnt have to go that far. We hung around for a while to answer the emergency responders questions, then they said that was all and we were on our way back to the car. And this is why every caching team needs someone like Ben. (Also, we grabbed 30 caches or so before this, but whos counting)
