I grew up hearing Gielgud, Olivier, et al. declaim Shakespeare in plummy Victorian accents; but according to Prof. David Crystal, the author of the brilliant history of our language, The Stories of English (which Im currently reading), and his actor son, Ben Crystal, Elizabethan English was quite different than the RADA version were used to; it sounds a lot more like Appalachian hillbillies of Scotch-Irish descent than the speech of Dame Edith Evans~! https://youtube/watch?v=gPlpphT7n9s
