I had two people in my life that i truly admired and respected. Although they were polar opposites i hung on their every word. One was a marine fighter pilot who was president of the company that i built houses for in memphis. The man could walk into a room with a hundred hardened convicts and not say a word and every man in that room would stop talking and not a sound would be heard until he left and by the way he was 5 ft 6 weighed maybe 110. We spent a lot of time together on enid lake and in memphis he had a sign on his desk that simply said REMEMBER THE MAIN THING IS KEEP THE MAIN THING THE MAIN THING. My other friend was executive vice president of national mortgage and i as a gentile was blessed to have been his assistant for eight yrs. he was an orthodox jew and the things i saw and learned about his people forever changed my views and opened my eyes about a lot of things. We met every morning for coffee and bagels at his house and my instructions for the day would be written on a paper plate with a majic marker. HE ALWAYS asked my opinion on any project we encountered and led me to believe he didnt know a thing about the building trades and i remember many times trying to explain how i was going to build this or that and he would always give me the latitude to do it my way as though ther were no other way . one day while moving some boxes in his attic i saw a picture of him with the title PRESIDENT OF THE AMERICAN BUILDERS ASSOSSIATION. One day in n a moment of reflection, i suppose, he said to me Eddie THE SECRET TO SUCCESS IS SURROUND YOURSELF WITH SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE. How much simplier can it be those few words from those two men have never been truer.the part that went unsaid is just as important if you want to be a loser hang around with losers they love company .
