I have a lot of thoughts and feelings about top 40 hiphop right now. I dont have the kinda time to be searching blogs and trading digital mixtapes etc to find my music so Ive got the radio and top 40 lists. And its making me all kinds of angry. First, its all Chris Brown all day. Wtf. Sorry I take issue with domestic violence. I dont need a reminder of his awfulness every other song. Other than that, Id like to feel compelled to MOVE when I listen to hiphop. But instead no songs have a beat that jumps off at the beginning and instead, I have to listen for at least a minute to hear the beat drop and by then Im asleep. And thats just it, these songs are so sleepy. And if not sleepy, Pharell is on some cheesy shit. Or everyone is sad. HIPHOP IS SO SAD THESE DAYS. Stop being emo. Music is supposed to make you feel better. And whats with these names? Ca$h $, Lil Thugz, Yung Wang Tang or whatever nonsense. If youre going to have a dumb name, at least use actual letters and spell it correctly. Then dont even get me started on Iggy and Nicky being the only women represented. Maybe I should just keep listening to country music because they are doing better hiphop these days. Seriously. Thats a thing. But thats also hella problematic. So if you dont want folks to culturally appropriate your shit, then DO BETTER. I just cant. Hiphop, I used to love H.E.R. End rant. (Disclaimer: I fully recognize this all might be a sign Im old and doing that whole kids these days... But seriously, kids these days...)
