I have had a haunting interest in building a go-cart for many years. Not any go-cart. The vision started with listening to Harleys idle and when run WOT. I could hear some semblance of a side-piped Shelby Cobra. I thought it would be a great idea to make a Harley-powered go-cart, that looked like a Cobra. I dabbled with ideas, but couldnt get serious about buying an engine ($$). The project got kick started my friend Jason got hit (hes ok...) on his Buell, which put an engine readily into my hands. Maybe facebook is a good way to share the project with others? Well try it I guess. Much time is spent reverse engineering parts, and designing. We built a jig with the scouts, and last winter worked on frame building. The frame is about done. Suspension nearly so, but need to choose some springs before it can roll on its own. Emma is designing and installing the brakes for her Senior Project. Spending a lot of time recently working on the drivetrain (design work...). Some say, this is not a go-cart, but a small car. I have to agree. Regardless, I cant recommend anyone taking on a project like this.
