I have seen people commending GEJ for the successful outcome of the Osun Guber election. I beg to differ. PDP wanted to use masked thugs posing as security agents to intimidate the people and possibly rig the election. This - using masked men - was sanctioned by GEJ because as the C-in-C he cant claim ignorance. Election is a civil matter, there is absolutely no need to use masked men except you have other ulterior motives as it was in Osun. The Osun people were, however, brave and resilient, and foiled PDPs shenanigans; they voted, waited for their votes to be counted, got the results and followed it to the collation centres and ensured that nothing was changed. The people did these peacefully and didnt react in the face of brutal threats and intimidation contrary to what PDP and its had thought. If the Osun people were not peaceful, that would have given the PDP the opportunity to unleash their masked thugs and to manipulate the outcome of the election. The election was, therefore, made free and credible by the Osun people and INEC, not by GEJ. Was the election fair? No because an election before and during which you arrested all key opponents and drove some into hiding thereby preventing them from voting/organising their followers cant be regarded as fair. If the Osun people have reacted when APC leaders were being harassed, arrested and humiliated, the situation would have been different - the masked thugs would have had a field day manipulating the results. From all indications, GEJ had thought that by giving Jelili Adesiyan, Obanikoro, Fani Kayode, Chris Uba and others masked thugs to intimidate and terrorise Osun people and arrest key APC leaders, they can manipulate the election and Omisore will be declared the winner. But all their evil plans and machinations were foiled by the Osun people and they failed woefully. So, for me, all thanks and appreciation should go to the Osun people and to INEC for making it possible for the people to vote, monitor and protect their votes. I hope the people in the other States learn something from the Osun people on how not to succumb to brutal threat and intimidation in the 2015 general elections.
