I have seen some comments on Facebook about the state of the roads - TopicsExpress

I have seen some comments on Facebook about the state of the roads in the area with all the lorries coming from the Borders Railway sites. I contacted Borders Rail this morning about this and received the following reply. We are putting in place additional measures to try and manage this situation. While the bulk of the HGV traffic on the A7 is likely to be related to the railway, there is also considerable traffic currently related to quarrying operations in the area. From our perspective, we currently have 11 sweepers in operation. As of this week, we have also implemented vehicle washing facilities at five key locations along the route. This will include jet washing and wheel debris removal. While this will not eliminate the issue altogether, we hope that it improves the conditions to some degree. Weve always been clear that the A7 will be heavily impacted by the Borders Railway works and were now in the phase of the project where that is being felt most keenly. During the winter months, the scale of our earth works will be scaled back slightly, with more of a focus on structures, so we hope that the number of vehicles will slightly reduced. That said, the main civil engineering works will continue until next summer, so there will be sustained heavy traffic. We will continue to monitor the situation and will maintain continuous contact with the relevant road authorities and Police Scotland about managing the situation. In the mean time, we hope that the additional measures that we have put in place will improve the situation somewhat. If anyone wants to raise any particular concerns directly with them you can contact the project at [email protected]
