I have tattoos, and I have no regrets. If people look at me, - TopicsExpress

I have tattoos, and I have no regrets. If people look at me, see my tattoos and think negatively of me, its a bloody good filtering process - I dont want and I dont need people around me who judge me by my looks alone. It would be like saying every time we see someone donning religious gear, we think they are an extremist. Its just ignorant and silly. Getting a tattoo should not be a sign of rebellion or style in the first place, and its a test of character. You want it because it means something to you. Its something you think about, and are willing to live with for the rest of your life. its part of you. Its about making choices and living with them. The pain of getting inked in the first place is the first barrier, the second is that it is permanent. Somehow I think she cares too much about what others think of her, of how others judge her by her looks and tattoos, and not who she is inside, and what she does. Where external validation and conformance to societal norms defines her own, and her childrens values. But then again she said that she couldnt get jobs because of them. So yeah, thats understandable too, for the kind of jobs she would like to do. Its fine to want to remove your tattoos for personal reasons, just as it is fine to have tattoos for personal reasons. But to put people who choose to have tattoos down for being silly, is like putting down people with no tattoos for whatever reason. Both are just making themselves feel better by putting others down, a us vs them and we are smarter and they are stupid mindset. No, I dont think shes a traitor to the tattoo community to do what she wants. I could be wrong, but the tone somehow comes across as if tattoos are stupid and highly regrettable, and the pain and money she went through to get rid of them is testament to her earlier, regrettable idiocy. That grown ups know better NOT to have tattoos. Maybe for her yes, but there are many more who are quietly proud of their decision, and they have no regrets. They just dont brag about it. They dont have the same airtime as she does, and to some, its a sad thing indeed that she allows her looks, and societys impression of her at first glance, to define who she is and who she can be. On a side note, there are people who say but theyll look ugly when youre 70!. At 70, my tattoos and my looks are the last things Id be worrying about I think. At 70, I dont think I would be walking around trying to get laid or get by with my looks lah... :)
