I have to blanket 13 horses when preparing for a storm! Thats 65 buckles!!! Heres how I keep it efficient. This method is also useful for training a horse to be comfortable with a blanket in the first place. For those who need to learn to blanket a horse.... This is for you, too! 1) Store the blanket on rack folded in half ready to go over the horses withers like a saddle pad and leave all buckles unbuckled in storage! 2) Lay blanket across horses withers/upper back where a saddle pad would go, then unfold to horses butt. 3) Latch front buckles to help steady the blanket while hooking the rest of them. 4) Latch buckles in criss-cross pattern under horses belly to keep blanket well secured while the horse is wearing it. 5) Latch buckles in criss-cross pattern through back legs. 6) Check all straps to make they didnt loosen last time the blanket was worn. Belly straps should have space for your hand to fit comfortably between straps and belly. Chest straps should lay flat on horses chest when blanket in place at withers. Rear straps should be loose for movement, but tight enough that if the horse lays down, a hoof cant slip through.
