I have to say this and I am sorry if I offend anyone in the process but it is really making me sick to my stomach to see the posts about families and spouses not getting a free meal. Today is about VETERANS... not a free meal or a discount on something!!! I realize we do make sacrifices by being military families- but this is getting out of hand. Stop acting like you are OWED something by being the spouse or family of a service member. That service member is who is OWED gratitude, not you. That service member is the one who gave up everything each and every time they put on their uniform and left everything they love behind to go serve their country. Veterans Day is a recognized holiday to HONOR the ones that serve, past and present. Veterans Day is for the citizens to show their gratitude for the sacrifices the living VETERANS have made and continue to make and to mark the end of World War 1- the Armistice with Germany was signed on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918...it is to give thanks from us to those men and women that serve day in and day out. It is not about sales, free meals and what ever else free or discounted goods and services you can get out of it by being the spouse or the family of a service member. So from my heart and soul, I thank those that serve- past and present for all that YOU do- have done and will continue to do. I thank you, the VETERAN, the one who gives up everything to serve. The VETERAN that carries that burden, has the nightmares, the memories, the scars. The VETERAN that takes that oath to serve for our great nation. The VETERAN that wears the uniform, the boots, the dog tags...THANK YOU will never be enough for all that YOU do. I am a proud Army wife, the daughter of an amazing retired Army soldier, the sister in law to a great Air Force pilot...the list goes on.
