I haven;t been posting much of the personal stuff lately, not because it doesnt exist.. its just that Ive been incredibly busy. Today was a rough day right up until I went to visit Kristin for her guitar lesson tonight (thanks for the sanity break Kristin, always delightful to see you and the rest of the Pandora House family). I posted some of my concerns with what Ive been doing for day work lately. It beats the previous no day work situation, but even working basically three jobs, I havent been making ends meet despite living incredibly cheaply and simply. Theres something strange about working a supposed tech gig (*cough*) where your pay is significantly less than what some folks down the road believe you should be compensated just for flipping a burger, spending three hours per day traveling there, etc. etc… At a meeting today, there was an announcement that regular day hours will be cut from 8 hours to 7.25. Quick mental calculation, about $150 dollars less a month, rent is 30 bucks more per month, gas is expensive and insurance is up 20 per month… Cant afford to quit, but I cant afford to work there. Basically the only real plus has been the flexibility in time that I can take off to pursue my main business, i.e. the band, I keep hoping that this group can be profitable, and we keep improving our product ( and I frequently say imagine how good wed be if we could dedicate our full time to it) Naturally this financial change happens just as I made a couldnt ignore deal on some used gear. Its an investment in my tools, but I was hoping to get some decent clothes before the Memphis trip for the show, too. And cover regular rent utilities, food,insurance… *sigh* I need the band to be successful. Current situation is not sustainable. I cant begin to fathom all of the suffering Ive done chasing this goal, especially over the last five years with my current tribe, for no real gain. Alll right, enough venting. Lets go adjust the plan of action. I hope to have time to post the more pleasant stuff soon.
