I joined D.A.R. on my maternal side of family. My father searched his Georgia Ledbetters from 1969-81 until his death. We have the book Ledbetters From Virginia. Years ago one of the authors said they didnt search GA Ledbtters. With the PC & the wonderful world of high tech, I have been actively searching since 2003. I promised my father to continue. Didnt realize it would be such a cold case. Its a good thing I love research! Several weeks & hours have been spent in 3-4 Georgia counties to no avail. To quote an old saying, no stone has been left unturned. Newspapers from mid 1800s have been a blessing. Although prominent, most of the men were in agriculture, tax records were good. I did locate my 2nd great grandfather John as a Representative from Paulding & Polk County, but cant find any other records, or minutes. Have records of my grandfather, Dr L. who graduated from Baltimore College of Surgery & Physicians in 1855. This includes proved records back to 1806, my 3rd great grandparents, James & Sarah Camp, but no further info except children, etc In 1948 my paternal grandparents home burned with the family bible. Presently, Im searching for the Ledbetters surrounding neighbors who had Land Grants. Maybe there are notes, letters, etc. In closing all my Ledbetters were born in GA. There are no cementary records, etc I wonder if the civil war destroyed these records. Most 1780 re its a were re instructed. Any comment is appreciated.
