I just copied this from another site and felt it is VERY IMPORTANT to pass on: HEALTH ALERT!!! I just read an article about the tragic result of giving a dog a stuffed toy manufactured for children...NOT DOGS. The dog in question was feeling very off. The owner suspected she had ingested part of a stuffed animal toy given to her by the daughter. The vet was extremely concerned when symptoms presented and surgery was started. While on the operating table, the vet opened up the dogs abdomen where she expected to see a foreign body causing a blockage. To her horror, the dogs stomach, intestines were packed with a black goo like gel. The lining of the intestines and stomach had already been dissolved in places and there was no hope for the dog. Results of the investigation were that toys manufactured for use by children are stuffed with materials treated with a fire retardant which causes the toy to melt instead of catch fire. It is highly toxic and...well...turns a dogs inside to a gell-i-fied heartbreak. I am guilty of giving my dogs human toys because I find them cheap sometimes and my dogs just rip them apart so its a cheap thrill I can give them sometimes. I was horrified when I read this article. Wish I could find it again. If I do...I will share the link. I have since erradicated all human toys from my household. APPARENTLY...some quilts and comforters have stuffing treated with the same product. SO SCARY!!!
