I just finished writing a post about some of the rape hoaxes weve been hearing about recently. I might make this my next topic. For now, I can tell you that my opinion about enhanced interrogation might surprise you if you havent really paid attention to my philosophy on things. To summarize, Ill ask you this: would you consider it torture if, as we did to terror suspects, an enemy force captured our military and made them endure week-long sleep deprivation, near drowning (which is what waterboarding is), anal penetration, naked humiliation, hypothermia, and all manner of other affronts to basic human dignity? Picture a captured Marine enduring this, and then tell me whether it is torture, whether it is humane? If you answer yes to torture and no to humane in the case of an imprisoned American, you cannot suddenly change the definition of these terms because its the other guy. Then, once weve gotten past definitions and determined that this is, for sure, torture, the next question is whether America, supposedly the moral and ethical beacon of the world, should be engaging in it? And if we do engage in it, how can we chastise other countries for similar behavior? And, most importantly, if you are a Christian, can you, by any stretch of the imagination, justify torture from a theological perspective? Find me one thing Christ ever said that could possibly be construed as giving room to the possibility of torture, and then we can talk. But even if you found that, which you wont, we still have the matter of the law to contend with. These things are illegal, and we were lied to. You dont get to make your own laws just because you work for the CIA. Sorry. And, yes, obviously they have a difficult job, but since when does difficult job translate into hey, I guess we can strip this guy naked, shove tubes up his rectum, and try to drown him in a bucket until he talks? The one thing conservatives should have is a cogent moral philosophy that is consistently applied in all cases. Unfortunately, some conservatives abandon it when the conversation turns to certain subjects. theblaze/stories/2014/12/09/long-awaited-senate-report-accuses-cia-of-torturing-prisoners-far-beyond-legal-boundaries-and-of-lying-to-the-nation/
