I just found this old video from early spring this year, showing the aftermath of a sand storm. In December Sherif got the huge sheets to make emergency covers for rain, and they worked brilliantly until sandstorm season started. Sherif had left in the morning to do errands, and of course while he was gone it started to blow up, a rope snapped and everything fell apart. When he came back all the guys were frantically running around with the ladder while unsuccessfully trying to re-establish everything. Sherif shouted at us I leave you alone for two hours and everything falls apart! I made the little video because I was so amused at how calm all the horses were, in spite of this enormous thing flapping up and down above them. Egyptian horses are so used to noise and people from the day they are born, and I often forget that this is not the case with many Western horses. The grey and the chestnut were tied up after they almost knocked over the ladder with our worker Gamal on it :D The horse that is walking to the trough is Semsem2, he had arrived about a week before and had finally started to move around a bit, you can see he is stiff and limping a bit. Behind the camel you can see Lumpy the first time he came to us, while he still had some muscle and weight on him.
