I just had a Zalman Moment. Tell me, what would you have done in this situation? Today, I was standing in line at Ariel grocery and a somewhat disoriented older Persian lady in line ahead of me put her groceries on the counter with $15. The owner said, Your bill is $70. You only have $15, what are you going to take? The lady looked confused and pulled out another few dollars. The owner looked at the long line of people waiting to pay and said anxiously, You still dont have enough. I gave the owner $20 and said, This is for her some of her groceries. G-d bless the owner, she took it and gave the lady the rest of the groceries. After I left, I thought, You know, I missed a Zalman Moment again. I should have had more holy chutzpah. I should have turned to everyone waiting in line and said, Hey, Yidden, heres a chance to do a mitzvah to thank Hashem for bringing us across the sea. Ive got $20, who else can contribute?
