I just talked with Mary Susan and, briefly, everyone is OK. n The Costas’ house is out of the evacuation zone and unless the fire moves in an unexpected direction, they should remain OK. n Woody/Kea’s house is now included in the mandatory evacuation zone (as of about 10 o’clock last night), although they are out of the forest area on the plains. MS says the fire is about two miles from Woody/Kea’s house, but that is about the southern perimeter of the forest, so it is unlikely the fire would reach their house. n The horses from both households are being moved to a place near Castle Rock, well north of Colorado Springs, and a few miles south of Surrey Ridge, where Woody and Kea lived before moving to where they are now. This is the second move for the horses, which had been moved to nearby safe zones yesterday. n MS and her family are still at home, but have things packed and are ready to go, if required. n Woody and Kea, after moving their horses yesterday, loaded themselves and the barn cat into their motorhome last night and overnighted at a Walmart somewhere nearby, and I assume will continue living in the motorhome until they can return to their home. MS is very hoarse – combination of allergies, smoke and lots of phone talking. She said that having everything ready to go if they have to evacuate leaves her free to help out neighbors, if required. They all appreciate everyone’s concern, and she said if the situation worsens, she will let me know. And I will, in turn, pass along the later news to everyone.
