I keep hearing about the kids not learning in school. People are blaming the teachers. Yes, teachers are to provide a learning environment for students. Yes, education begins at home. Part of that home education means that parents must teach their children to respect others, especially teachers and other students in the classroom, ie behaving properly and not being disruptive. What I do not hear, is the responsibility of the students to LEARN. Teachers cannot MAKE students learn. I have NEVER, NEVER, NEVER heard of a teacher that refused to help a student that asked for help. They offer to spend extra time during breaks, after school and even during the their personal lunch. We are blessed to have the teachers and educational staff we have. Has anyone considered the possibility that these teachers may leave because they feel that there are too many STUDENTS that arent manageable? I, for one, could not, no WOULD NOT tolerate the behavior displayed by many young people, these days. The blatant disrespect, defensiveness and lack of support by many parents is absolutely pathetic. These kids must assume some responsibility as well. As far as raising taxes is concerned, we are all aware that the cost of living increases every year, as it has for decades. If you choose to live in a place that offers the latest and greatest and offers services and opportunities, then you must pay for it. No, I dont like the thought of tax increases, but I also dont like the thought of going backwards, either. Its a tough world we live in, but weve managed and weve come to far to give up now. Priorities. Maybe we cant buy that designer handbag, get manis n pedis or buy the top of the line hunting gear...you get my point. We can all afford to provide our children the opportunity of a jam up learning environment with teachers that are compensated for the dedication to our most valuable assets, our children.
