I know us oldies remember exactly where we were when Kennedy was shot in Dallas - I was in the army, driving back to the base after a quick lunch with my wife, when this DJ came on the radio laughing just heard Kennedy was shot in Dallas on our wire, I stopped right in the middle of two lanes of traffic going in Fort Sill, Okla, asked the MP if he had heard of Kennedy shot in Dallas, he screams at me to move, not hold up traffic, so I again asked if had heard and then he is in my face, what the hell you saying then he answers his ringing phone, soon, here take this pistol, this base is locked down, do not move your pickup (1960 El Camino), close that going out gate, no one leaves or gets in - could write a book about battery clerk PFC Lemmons waving a loaded MP pistol stopping traffic leaving base, no one left, not even the base general - long afternoon, MP moved my El Camino just blocking one lane, letting those needed back on base - finally allowed to go home. The best memory of November 22nd, my son Colbys birthday.
