“I like using the allegory of the phoenix to describe how my work evolves. The bird sets itself on fire… and in the embers is an egg. What I’m saying is that in order to do great things, you must be unafraid to detach yourself from where you think you’ve had some interesting success, because you’ve got to recreate yourself again and you can’t do that holding to a glory from yesterday. You’ve got to continue to reinvent yourself today, all the while thinking about tomorrow. Once it was done it was done. It was like, ‘okay, cool, what’s new?’. What would excite me is when I hear new and different things that were completely left of everything that was going on. I was like, ‘ok wow that’s great!’. You know somebody once asked me what inspires me, and I said ‘all of the things that don’t exist’.”
