I love my Beth Moore study !!! While reading and doing homework for the study i attend... I was just slain by the Spirit and i am filled with Wonder and want to try to share it...I hope i can share it correctly for you....I pray that you have the same reaction if you take the time to read this prayerfully... I was told to read Gen 20;13 ( Abraham said this is how you can show your love to me ) the Hebrew word Hesed is being explained .... Abraham took wrong advantage of the concept and relationship, Hesed is viewed in the context of the marriage covenant. In Genesis 21;23 Hesed is viewed in the context of an oath and covenant between two people. In the shortest definitions possible hesed is covenant kindness and Loyal love.... It is the expression of Love, favor, or kindness based on a covenant relationship. Covenant kindness could also be shown outside a covenant relationship as if to say. I Will show you the kindness of someone in covenant to you, though i am not. Hesed was the ULTIMATE MERCY. The concept of Hesed is undoubtedly most attributed to GOD. What phrase is repeated throughout Psalm 136? ( HIS LOVE ENDURES FOREVER ) Why would God allow such a profound concept to be illustrated first through the lacking relationships of man??? To teach the unknown through the known... The ancient world understood the binding oaths of covenant kindness and loyal love. As God revealed Himself through the annals of History as YHWH , the COVENANT God, He suggested His otherwise UNFATHOMABLE MERCY and TENDER LOVE as the ultimate extension of hesed.... as i have studied the concept of hesed...Ive come to the stark realization of something so difficult for me to grasp that I can hardly teach it; ....Through the Covenant relationship weve entered by the blood of Jesus Christ, the God of all creation is loyal to us...LOYAL...can you fathom it???? The Sovereign Most High has PLEDGED HIS LOYAL Love to us .....As drastic inferiors in the relationship, hesed would make more sense to us if we were bound by covenant to be loyal to God rather than the other way around,but the humbling Truth is that God bound Himself by covenant to be loyal to us... Paul expresses it beautifully in 2 Timothy 2;13 if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself. Hebrews 6;13 When God made his promise to Abraham, since there was no one greater for him to swear by, he swore by himself, Thank You Father God I have no more worries for Israel because you are faithful! and LOYAL !!!! Genesis 22;15 - 18 15 The angel of the Lord called to Abraham from heaven a second time 16 and said, “I swear by myself, declares the Lord, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son, 17 I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies, 18 and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.”
