I love the Doctor on Voyager. But, is an EMH the best concept to supplement/replace medical personnel? Consider. Often an emergency necessitating the EMH means that medical staff are injured, under attack, or dead. And that often means the ship itself is in dire straits (as in the pilot ep). In such situations the ships tech resources may not be accessible. An EMH requires holo and forcefield emitters, loads of computer memory. If those systems are damaged it cant function fully, even temporarily. Even in normal circumstances an EMH is limited to sickbay, unless emitters are installed elsewhere. Given potential issues, would a better EM being be something like an android, that can move freely, has self contained power, and isnt dependent on sensitive systems?
