I may be called blind, naive, ignorant and blindly loyal. I - TopicsExpress

I may be called blind, naive, ignorant and blindly loyal. I don’t believe that any of those things are true, but I can take the heat, so I’m going to stick my neck out there anyway. But I want to HERE AND NOW… and PUBLICLY… DECLARE my undying gratitude to BOB JONES UNIVERSITY for the Godly, biblical training that I received during my years there, and for the same training that was received by my two children. This is not blind loyalty. Since my enrollment as a freshman in 1982, including all of my years of biblical ministry since then, I have done as the Bereans – comparing scriptures to the training received and to the preaching that I have heard from the BJU pulpit. While neither one person nor any sole institution is perfect, I am proud of my alma mater and still recommend the school today. That could change, but that would only change if the school CHANGES… NOT if it stays basically the same as it was when I was there so many years ago. (I am not talking about personalities, or even the sometimes harsh attitudes that some individuals may have exhibited. I am talking about their conservative interpretation of and unfaltering stand for biblical truth and principles.) Frankly, and I’m sure that I’ll take some heat for this, but from the very beginning I was of the opinion that this whole GRACE inquiry was opening a forum to those who already had an axe to grind. If you or I opened such a forum on your account or mine (and I’m not doing that here on this post… just so you know), we too would have negative reports arise about how things “turned out” in some cases. Personal, private counseling sessions can very easily be turned against the counselor at some later date, depending on how the counselee responds and on how the events unfold afterwards. At any rate, I could go on for quite a while, but I’d better not. I’ll not say that no incorrect or mistaken counsel was ever given by anyone on that campus. I will say, however, that the counsel and teaching that I received was predominantly excellent, and I’m quite sure that hundreds and thousands of others could say the same. A biblically fundamentalist school or church will almost always be judged very harshly by those who don’t agree with our core principles. I personally think this whole thing was a huge mistake and that it has sullied the names of good and godly men whom I know and have known personally. Unfortunately irreparable damage has been done to some of their reputations. Once you are accused that tarnish can almost never be removed. Fortunately, the Lord, the Just Judge, will make all things right one day. In the meantime, I stand by my friends who know and love the Lord. I am happy and proud to name DR. BOB JONES III as my personal friend. I am happy to say that I have had personal dealings with some others, like DR. JIM BERG and others. While I have never agreed 100% with anyone besides the Lord Himself, I love and respect these men, and I pray for the Lord’s blessing and protection on them. Again, this is not intended to open a forum for agreement or disagreement. While I will read any responses received I will not likely leave many, if any, on my post. Readers may feel free to post on their own forums.
