I might be going out on a limb here, but I read this article and felt the need to address a topic... We dont always have a cover charge, but when we do, please remember that we do it to help provide artists with a decent income for a unique and valuable product in an industry where it has become increasingly difficult to eek out a living. We dont keep any of the door fee for the bar. It allows us to book top notch acts and production. It is the only way for our business to be sustainable AND fair to artists while providing a QUALITY live show experience- which is the only way we want to do it. We want our business to survive and thrive by not compromising our values or quality. Maybe thats naive, but its truth. Eds has become one of the premier venues in MN- attracting the best musicians in the area- because we approach their art with the utmost appreciation and fairness, because we provide an excellent experience for both them and our customers. Im not writing this to insult anyone who balks at a door fee, but I ask that everyone be aware of how that small charge to the individual, when taken as a whole, becomes the thing that helps support the music professionals we love and respect, and it also helps us take risks and losses by having admission free shows with the local and emerging artists that we believe in and want you to hear. Thanks for reading, and thanks for supporting the arts in MN. :)
