I miss riding around in my bronco lookin for good turtle ponds. I miss the Reinersville poultry auction. I miss hearing a hundred coon dogs at Traders days, and I miss camping. I miss sitting in a tree stand for hours in the rain. I miss watching the Amish pick up leftover corn in the fields during shotgun season. I miss the smell of burning brush and the caw of crows. Ive always been torn. It was hard being gay in the country 16 years ago. But sometimes I wonder which Is harder; trying to fit in as a gay man in the country, or trying to fit in as a country boy in the city. Cause these city people think they are open minded. They think country folk are ignorant, narrow minded, and judgmental. But Ive encountered many, many city people who will degrade you and despise you simply for disagreeing with their world view, especially so called progressives. It just goes to show that narrow mindedness exists everywhere you go. If you think you are immune to being a narrow minded ass simply because you obtained a degree, grew up with a sidewalk in front of your house, watch John Stewart, or have a skin tone that isnt hillbilly white, you should probably do a little self examination. I promise, youre not.
