I must admit that I was somewhat surprised to see that Belize served as the featured location for one of my favourite shows in last nights airing of the Discovery Channels Naked and Afraid. As per usual, they did not give the specific location of the challenge, but based on the ambiguous description of southeast Belize, coupled with the topography displayed, I would wager they were somewhere in either in the area of the Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary in the Stann Creek District or maybe a bit further south, somewhere in the Toledo District. It was a good episode. What I found very interesting was that, in their quest to find food, one of the contestants was considering trying to kill (unbeknownst to him) what was actually a Jumping Tommy Goff! For those who are unaware of what that is, Ill share that the Tommy Goff is one of the most aggressive and deadliest snakes found in Belize and throughout Central America! Although they claim that the accompanying camera crew does not become involved in the participants interactions, Im inclined to believe that someone advised that he not attempt to kill the Tommy Goff. That, inevitably, was sound advice. Needless to say, it was nice to see Belize receive some air time on the Discovery Channel.
