I noticed there were some people saying that Colton wasnt getting national attention. Just wanted to put this out there. This is the second time Ive seen Nancy Grace run a story on this. ----------------------------------------------------------- CPS confirms prior involvement with Texas boy missing since July who police say was buried in a shallow grave Colton Turners mother and her boyfriend are charged with tampering with evidence for allegedly concealing his body Police: Mother said Colton died after he hit his head on motel air conditioner as a result of being assaulted Texas Child Protective Services had “prior involvement” with a toddler whose remains are believed to have been found in a shallow grave in Austin last Friday, an agency spokesperson confirmed Tuesday. Department of Family and Protective Services Media Specialist Julie Moody said CPS is conducting an internal review of its involvement with 2-year-old Colton Brandt Turner prior to his death. She declined to discuss details of the prior cases, saying the information will be made public when the review is complete. Court documents released this week have also provided new details about Colton’s death and the steps his mother and her boyfriend allegedly took to cover it up over two months ago. Meagan Work, 20, and Michael Brandt Turner, 29, have been charged with tampering with physical evidence for allegedly concealing Colton’s body after he died in their care in early July. Cedar Park police discovered that Colton was missing on September 10 after a friend of Meagan Work contacted them to report that she had seen photos of Colton with severe bruises and injuries that suggested he was a victim of continued abuse. Detectives located Work at a home in Cedar Park and questioned her about Colton’s welfare. According to an arrest affidavit, Work initially claimed Colton was being cared for by a friend in Sachse, Texas. However, when police contacted the friend in Sachse, she said Work told her on September 5 that Colton was staying with family in East Texas, the affidavit states. Confronted about this apparent inconsistency in her story, Work allegedly told detectives that Colton had been abducted from her locked truck at a Budget Inn in Austin, along with his purple blanket and her wallet, when she left him alone in the vehicle for a few minutes. Upon further questioning, police allege Work changed her story again, now claiming that she had given Colton to an unknown couple at a fast food restaurant. Investigators then went to the San Saba County Jail, where Michael Brandt Turner was being held on an unrelated probation violation. While not Colton’s biological father, Turner told police he treated the boy as his son. According to the affidavit, Turner first told detectives that Work told him she had given Colton to friends at a fast food restaurant, but he eventually allegedly admitted that Colton was dead and told them where the boy’s body was buried. Around 2:30 a.m. on Friday, according to court records, Turner led police to a location off Felter Lane in Austin where he allegedly had buried Colton, wrapped in a purple blanket, in a shallow grave under a pile of wood and a piece of sheetrock. About 12 hours later, that location was excavated and remains of a child believed to be Colton were found. After the burial site was found, Work allegedly changed her story again and said Colton hit his head on an air conditioning unit in their motel room “as a result of being assaulted” on July 6, according to the affidavit. Work allegedly stated that Colton could not walk right after that incident, and later that afternoon, he began to have problems breathing. “Meagan and Michael both knew that he was getting worse but wanted time to think of the best way of getting help, without getting into trouble,” the affidavit alleges. According to the affidavit, Work told detectives she fell asleep around 3 or 4 a.m. on July 7 and Colton was dead when she awoke. That night, she and Turner allegedly took Colton’s body to a location where Turner began to dig a grave while she used her phone to provide light. Police said Work feared the grave was not deep enough, so the couple took Colton’s body back to their motel room until the following night. On July 8, Turner allegedly buried the body at the Felter Lane location while Work waited in the car. According to the affidavit, Work and Turner never called police after Colton’s death because “they feared any pending investigation coming from a deceased child.” Austin police said Friday that the case is being treated as a possible homicide and more serious charges are being discussed with prosecutors. While forensic tests are still being conducted to obtain more information about Colton Turner’s cause of death, Cedar Park Police Chief Sean Mannix told CNN affiliate KXAN that the case shocked him as a parent. “There’s no reason in the world why it should have happened,” Mannix said. “and regardless of, you know, how that little boy died, there is no excuse for him ending up in a shallow grave in a field next to a pile of garbage in southeast Austin.” Work and Turner are both being held in Travis County on $250,000 bond on charges of tampering with physical evidence for allegedly concealing Colton’s body. Their first court appearances are scheduled for September 23. Calls to Work and Turner’s defense attorneys for comment on the allegations against them have not been returned.
