I offer this from a friends page. I agee with her 100%, as I often do. Martin Luther King Jr. Day tomorrow. Took Eli to see Selma. There was so much he didnt learn in school, that he didnt know. The violence was hard for both of us, but it was important for him to see it. Ferguson, all the racist vitriol that has bubbled up with Obama as President...Selma and Birmingham and Montgomery were not that long ago. Just a blink. That damn Confederate Flag still flies in some places.( Sorry fb friends who live in the South, but I hate that flag. It is a battle flag representing those whose stated cause for war was retaining the institution of slavery- look it up, its in the Declaration of War if you dont believe me. That flag belongs in a museum of history, not flying on someones porch in Alabama or Georgia. ) Our children are growing up in a scary world, and it will be up to them to confront the ugliness they witness in their lifetimes with the the love in their hearts and with non-violence, and determination to make this place better for their own kids. You should see Selma, and you should take your teenagers. Every year on this day I am very proud that my once upon a time father in law, Remis grandfather, Congressman Alphonzo Bell Jr, sat right behind King during his I Have a Dream speech. Al was one of the tiny group of Republicans in the House who voted for the Civil Rghts Act, and a close friend of Congressman John Lewis till he died. This is the title song of Selma, called Glory, it is gorgeous and stays with you. The lyrics are powerful. Tracy Kristine Nelson
