I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who - TopicsExpress

I offered my back to those who beat me, my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face from mocking and spitting. Because the Sovereign LORD helps me, I will not be disgraced. Therefore have I set my face like flint, and I know I will not be put to shame. He who vindicates me is near. Who then will bring charges against me? Let us face each other! Who is my accuser? Let him confront me! It is the Sovereign LORD who helps me. Who will condemn me? They will all wear out like a garment; the moths will eat them up. Isaiah 50:6-9 (NIV) Christ making Himself powerless so that He would do nothing to stop their abuse and persecution. His obedience was even to submission to shame and contempt and His complete confidence in the Lord to vindicate His claim and put His enemies to shame consequently. Consequently His purpose to endure to the end, the servant turns to the note of triumph, seeing Hmself as having won a great legal battle with God’s help. Luke alludes to the flint like steadfastness of Christ’s devotion. Luke 9:51: “As the time approached for him to be taken up to heaven,(A) Jesus resolutely set out for Jerusalem.” Jesus allowed all this to be done to Him voluntarily. What terrible agony Jesus went through in His pre-crucifixion suffering which this passage gives credence to. “We have before us the language of prophecy, but it is as accurate as though it had been written at the moment of the event. Isaiah might have been one of the Evangelists, so exactly does he describe what our Savior endured.” (Spurgeon)
