I potted up 12 new Bonsai trees & shrubs yesterday & will do several more today. Many of them are for sale & make a great gift for those who love trees. This Pinus banksiana, ‘Uncle Fogy’ is somewhat rare & has a very unique form. Pinus banksiana, Uncle Fogy’. Zone 2 Wildly undulating, pendulous branches give unique character to every plant of this distinctive form of Jack Pine. It bends & swoops to create a curvy, living sculpture decorated with resinous winter buds. This collector’s plant was first discovered in a garden in Minnesota. Extremely cold hardy, it tolerates heat, cold and dry, sandy or poor soils. The other is one of my favorites. It’s a Chaenomeles japonica, Japanese Flowering Quince. Zone 4. Up to 10’ tall. Early bloom bright red to orange flowers. Tolerant to extremes of heat, cold and various soil conditions. Growing OK in our gardens for many years. Naturally in a Bonsai pot things will never reach their full size. I’ll try to post a complete list of our Bonsai starter trees & shrubs later today.
