I propose a new law of online conversations. Many of you will be familiar with Godwins Law: As an online discussion grows longer, the probability of a comparison involving Nazis or Hitler approaches 1 - that is, if an online discussion (regardless of topic or scope) goes on long enough, sooner or later someone will compare someone or something to Hitler or Nazis. The implication is that anyone who introduces Hitler or the Nazis will automatically lose an online debate. My proposal is that as online discussion of business or innovation continues, the probability of Apple getting cited as a bastion of innovation approaches 1, and the integrity of all subsequent conversation and analysis will equal zero, due to the inherent inaccuracy of the citation. I shall call this The Jacobs Law of Incorrect Assumptions.
