I really love many of the things Ive heard from Francis since he ascended to the the Papacy....but on this subject, I could not disagree more strongly. Well not truly know Gods true feelings on the subject of euthanasia until we are face to face with him on the White Throne of Judgement. And anyone who claims to have the Almighty on speed dial, to know precisely what HIS thoughts are, I consider a false prophet. Its one thing to say this is my interpretation of the spirit of God within me, quite another to speak as though you are HIS absolute, immutable mouthpiece on Earth. Seems to me that the Catholic church once denounced a brilliant scientist named Galileo and his claim that the Sun was the center of the universe, and that Earth revolved it, rather than the reverse. Galileo was persecuted by the church until the day he died. How did that work out? It took more than 4 centuries for the Church to admit it was wrong. My point is, the most reverent of religious leaders can be wrong...sometimes, terribly so. After all, we are ALL human and therefore imperfect beings. I believe strongly in death with dignity, and the God man within me, leads me to think that my loving father doesnt want to see his children suffer needlessly...when all humanly hope seems gone. What about miracles? If you truly believe that God is omnipotent, youd have to concede that HE could certainly prevent any euthanasia attempt from working, should he want to. That would be miraculous wouldnt it? He could stop death from happening at all...should he want to -- couldnt HE? But, fact is, we all die. To me, the way in which one dies is not very important, rather, its the way one lives, which I believe, is paramount with GOD. Could I be wrong...absolutely! But, this is the way my spirit feels led. Poverty, abuse (including that from pedophile priests) and societal indifference, has claimed the lives of many, many times more people than euthanasia.
