I recently reviewed footage from my trip to Poland, and I want to share this moment which Ive captured in a screen shot. This scene: I was visiting ZIH (the Jewish Historical Institute) in Warsaw to see their exhibit, Salvaged. The exhibit contains one of my great-grandfathers paintings. When I visited, a group of American benefactors was visiting and were on a private tour led by one of the art curators. I mentioned to a woman in the group that one of my great-grandfathers paintings was in the exhibit. She immediately insisted I must come speak to the group. There are two pictures here. One shows me standing in front of my great-grandfathers painting, gesturing toward it, and the gathered group listening to me speak about the art and my documentary film project, Chasing Portraits. The other image was captured by my cameraman, Slawomir Grunberg, and shows a woman using her smartphone to take a photograph of me speaking. So what you see is both her photo of me on her cellphone and me in the larger shot of the frame.
