I saw the first reboot. Ive had no real urge to see Into Darkness. This is coming from someone who has watched all 525 hours* of Trek at least *thrice*, had his picture taken sitting in the actual captains chair from the show, and to this day still owns a replica phaser and Starfleet uniform. And I DONT *CARE* about the new movie. If you work for Paramount, think about that for a while. Star Trek was *about* something. It had a message, and one that was years ahead of its time. Its one I actually believe in- That someday well be *better* than we are now, that we can have *hope* for the future. It showed a humanity beyond war, poverty, and prejudice. It showed what technology could someday achieve- and by their own admission, inspired the minds behind the cell phone, the internet, and the Mars missions. JJ Abrams dismissed this as being too philosophical, and gave us the same recycled CGI as every Michael Bay movie. The new Trek is a universe without hope, full of contrived drama, weak and impulsive men full of Tarantino** swagger, absurd magics in lieu of science, and an empty, tangled web of contrivance and spectacle. You can have it. ------------------------------------------------------------- *80 episodes of the original series, 178 of Next Gen, 176 of DS9, 172 of Voyager, 97 of Enterprise, 22 of the animated cartoon, and 10 movies **Tomorrow, I will spend the day explaining just how very, very much I hate Quentin Tarantinos black and empty soul with the passion of a thousand suns.
