I sent a letter to two of Oregons senators asking them to vote - TopicsExpress

I sent a letter to two of Oregons senators asking them to vote against exempting themselves and the other government officials from Obama Care and I got a response back from ONE of them and this is what he said. Notice he said he isnt aware of there being any proposals that would exempt them from that requirement. I dont believe that for one second! We all know a bill was passed before he responded to my email, which I received on October 24, 2013. In his letter he is saying this healthcare is for small businesses and individuals not offered health insurance. That again is NOT true! He said that Recently, the federal government announced new rules to ensure that the health care that Member of Congress and staff currently receive is switched over to the new exchanges next year. Ok so what are those new exchanges???? He said hes going to enroll his family this fall. Why? I thought it was only for small business and those who cant afford health insurance or have none. More double talk if you ask me! Dear Karen, Thank you for contacting me to express your concern about proposals to exempt Members of Congress from the health care reform law, also called the Affordable Care Act. I appreciate hearing from you. Like you, I believe that Members of Congress should participate in the exchanges set up by the Affordable Care Act and there are no proposals that I am aware of that would exempt them from that requirement. When the Senate debated and passed the Affordable Care Act three years ago, I supported the bill and its requirement that Members of Congress obtain their health insurance through the newly established health insurance marketplaces called exchanges. Although these marketplaces were designed to only cover small businesses and individuals not offered affordable health insurance by their employer, the Affordable Care Act makes an exception for Members of Congress. Recently, the federal government announced new rules to ensure that the health care that Members of Congress and staff currently receive is switched over to the new exchanges next year. The health insurance marketplaces established by the Affordable Care Act will provide an efficient place for consumers and small businesses to make price comparisons and purchase health insurance plans offered by private insurance companies. In turn, these marketplaces – modeled after the Federal Employee Health Benefits Program – will help make insurance more affordable by pooling together individuals and small businesses to maximize their negotiating leverage. I will be enrolling myself and my family in a plan through Cover Oregon once enrollment begins this fall. Thank you, again, for your input. I hope you will continue to send me your views and ideas. All my best, Jeffrey A. Merkley United States Senator
