I shouldnt be going around giving away all our (laughs..) trade secrets but while I was watching The Abominable Dr Phibes the other day I wondered if there might be anyone out there who is still not aware of the Damned song it inspired. The film is a seriously great slice of 60s horror starring the inimitable Vincent Price (very popular in Damned circles) who also gets a mention in Beauty And The Beast from our last album. But the Phibes related tune Im talking about here is, of course 13th Floor Vendetta - one of my faves from the back catalogue featuring some fabulous playing from Paul and Rat, a demented voice over by Dave, backwards instrumentation that I recall producer Hugh having a tizzy about, and lots of other experimental ideas that we threw at the tape - and mainly worked. These Black Album sessions were the most creative and enjoyable of all Ive ever done... the band was, I thought unstoppable... but as usual we were very good at hitting the spokes with our own spanners and it wasnt long before things imploded again. Anyway - heres 13th Floor Vendetta - and in the comments Ill post a link to the whole movie on YouTube. Really worth looking at if youre into the darker side of life.... but especially if you want to see what could possibly have inspired such a strange song.
