I support any organizations right to petition a governing body. That concept is a bedrock of our U.S. Constitution and our democracy. If the home rule group is successful in securing the signatures necessary for a DISD charter review, I fully expect the Dallas ISD Trustees to comply with the law and appoint a representative Commission that will engage our community in a public conversation about DISD. In the end, it is the voters of Dallas ISD that will have the final say. I encourage all stakeholders to vigorously engage in this public dialogue. Whatever the final proposal, we should keep our eye on the ball and ask, Does this boost student achievement?
